I AM Stuart William Olds, born in January 1970 in Keynsham, Bristol, England. I am the author of the science fiction novel Hope's Truth, and I am an inventor/innovator.
I am, above all, a Carpenter. This is a trade which has stuck with the human species ever since we fell from the trees. We are still very reliant on using timber for our survival.
I feel privileged to be able to make a living with this renewable product. The moon landings would never have happened unless there was a person behind a mallet and chisel.
Today, as we understand more about our environment and the need for renewable material, Carpentry will rise again as such a necessary skill and profession. To call it a trade undermines its importance.
I was brought up on a poultry farm on the edge of Keynsham, which is situated mid-way between Bristol and Bath, UK. I am married with four children. Family is my harbour, my safe dock, always there to be a secure bolt-hole for whatever life decides to throw my way.
I consider myself very lucky to be here on this superb planet, helped along with a power pack which originally dates back to the French Revolution.
My writing started the year after the 9/11 attacks on The World Trade Centre. I was working in London at the time the planes hit, and had a very young family. I was extremely concerned for their future safety on this planet.
When I really boiled it all down, our main cause for global unrest is greed. Hope's Truth
was written to try and curb the need for this age old human defect. Or is greed an insurance for our survival instinct? Material goods are ok, but we are running low on raw materials. There just isn't enough to go round for a booming global population.
We are also developing nano-technology which could really upset the balance of nature. We are born with talent great or small. Our acceptance of what we were born with is paramount and should not be meddled with to enhance one's own self ability. Nature is there to take care of that issue.
My other books, which are all ready to write, cover a broad genre base and can very possibly make it to screen given the right breaks that every writer is looking for.
My musical and lyrical writing all came from a poem I wrote; the songs since have all come from there. Some songs are very to the point but are a true reflection of our times, especially in Britain.
I like to build stories into the songs and hope my band The Ruks
can develop Daisy into a fully fledged rock opera or play. I am lucky to have a great lead guitarist, Rob Benger and drummer, Jake Branton, in the band. Both are very creative and great fun to work with.
